Indoor Soccer (12/11/07)
The Varsity Indoor Soccer team (4-0, 4-0) beat Maryvale 3-2 in a game played at DuBurns
Arena. The Lions accounted for the two losses suffered by INDians last season. With the victory, IND sits atop the
league standings.
Swimming (12/11/07)
The Varsity Swimming team (1-1, 1-1) dived into the first meet of the season facing Seton
Keough and Towson Catholic. The small squad from Towson Catholic was no match for the INDians in an easy victory; however,
the Gators provided much sterner competition. The lead exchanged hands several times throughout the meet, but heading into
the final event both teams were tied. The final race of the meet was the 400 meter relay. In front of a boisterous
crowd of parents and teammates, Seton Keough narrowly claimed victory in the race and for the meet with a 48-46 score. Coach
Sara Florio noted the performance of senior Stephanie Hock. Stephanie had a busy day competing in four events: the
Butterfly leg of the 200 Medley Relay, the 100 Butterfly, the 200 Freestyle Relay, and the 400 Freestyle Relay.
Indoor Soccer (12/7/07)
The Varsity Indoor Soccer team (3-0, 3-0) defeated Friends 3-0 for their first shutout of the
season to remain unbeaten. Their next opponent is Maryvale on December 11. The INDians fell to the Lions twice last season,
including in the playoff finals, which snapped their 5 year reign as champs. The team will look to avenge those losses at Du Burns
Arena at 3:30.

Field Hockey Champions (11/4/07)
In a heart-stopping performance, the Varsity Field Hockey team (17-3, 16-1) claimed the first
IAAM C Conference Tournament Championship in program history by prevailing 3-2 in a shootout against Lutheran. Scoreless at the
half, the Saints scored first, but the INDians answered minutes later on a goal by sophomore Alyssa Dondero. With the score tied
1-1 at the end of regulation, the teams played two scoreless overtime periods before moving onto the shootout. The Saints, who tied
IND for the regular season title, and the INDians would face off in a five round shootout to determine the game winner. The shooting
order, determined by a coin flip, meant that the IND player would shoot first followed by the Lutheran player.
Each of IND's first three shots (freshman Ariella Hopp, Dondero, and junior Michele Chmielewski) found the net while
senior goalie Alexandria Saba (10 saves in the game) turned away two of the three shots to give IND a 3-1 advantage. Lutheran
narrowed the gap in the
fourth round when they scored while stopping IND's shot. The INDians' potential title clinching shot was turned away by the Lutheran
goalie to start round five. Needing a goal to tie and force a
sudden death shootout, Lutheran's
last gasp shot was stopped by Saba, sending the IND team and fans into a championship frenzy. For more on the game,

The growth of the program under Coach Stacey Bilenki has been phenomenal. When she took over the helm three seasons ago, she
inherited a program still in its infancy. The four year record of the program stood at 8-33-5. In 2005, her first season, the
team was just 1-12-4. In 2006, behind a veteran group of players led by nine seniors, the team had a dramatic turn-around.
Advancing to the semifinals with an 11-3-3 record, they fell to the eventual champion Mercy Magic by 1 goal in a shootout. With
the departure of the large senior class that accounted for nearly 60% of their offense and their only goalie, not many would have predicted
the 2007 team would reel off 16 straight conference wins (after dropping their first game of the season to Lutheran 2-1) to win the
championship. With the help of senior goalie Alexandria Saba, who transferred to IND last year in mid-year, and a roster that got
plenty of production from seniors to freshman to outscore their conference opponents 73-9 with 10 shutouts, the INDians had the necessary
chemistry to become champs. The team had four players named to the IAAM C Conference All Star Team: seniors Brianna Jones and
Alexandria Saba on the defensive side, and junior Michele Chmielewski and sophomore Alyssa Dondero on offense. Even the mid-season
departure of Coach Bilenki because of maternity leave didn't slow the team at
all. Coach Beth Tisdale stepped in to guide the team down the stretch. Congratulations to Coach Bilenki and Coach Tisdale
and the team for a thrilling championship game and a phenomenal season!

Field Hockey (11/1/07)
A season ago, the Varsity Field Hockey team (16-2, 15-1) found themselves in
an epic struggle in the semifinals of the IAAM C Conference Tournament against archrival Mercy. The game was
finally decided in a shoot out with the Magic edging the INDians 2-1 in penalty shots. This season, despite sweeping the
regular season meetings by scores of 5-2 and 4-0, the semifinal matchup was again a tight defensive struggle, but this time the
INDians came out on the victorious end of a 1-0 score. IND scored the only goal of the game in the first half on a shot by
freshman Jessica Chmielewski off of an assist by sophomore Alyssa Dondero. From their, the INDians relied on their defense
and the play of senior goalie Alexandria Saba (7 saves) to ensure that Mercy would remain scoreless. The win advances the
team to their first conference championship in the seven year history of the program.
Cross Country Champions (10/31/07)
The Varsity Cross Country team (23-1, 13-1) defended their IAAM B Conference title in the
Championship race by narrowly edging Glenelg Country School 37-38. The Gladiators were the only blemish during the regular
season for the IND, but the INDian runners prevailed in the biggest race of the year. The two teams
dominated the race, combining to place 8 of the top 9 runners overall. Glenelg had the leg up with 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 9th place finishes for 17 points while IND runners finished
2nd (junior Sarah Steinmetz 19:43), 5th (senior Emma Rybczynski 20:34), 6th (junior Maddy Jackson 20:59), and 8th (freshman Julie Gessler)
for 21 points. The winner would depend on the placement of the fifth runners for each team. The IND depth proved just 1 point
deeper with a 16th place finish by junior Abigail Gatch (21:55) against a 21st place finish for the Glenelg runner.
How close were the Gladiators of edging IND? If the fifth place Glenelg runner had run the 3 mile race just 14 seconds faster, IND would
have lost in a tie-breaker. The other championship race runners for IND were seniors Allison Buttner (50th,
25:06) and Shana Rochester (51st, 25:11). Click here for the race
results.
Congratulations to first year Coach Tim Smith and his team for a great season and a fantastic finish!
