One needs only to mention "The Game" to any IND alumnae or student and the only thing that comes to mind is the annual rivalry game versus Mercy. Started in 1967, the annual meeting between the INDians of IND and the Magic of Mercy has attracted the largest crowd to view a high school girls basketball game in the State of Maryland.

The inaugural meeting took place in the Baltimore Civic Center, now the Baltimore Arena, a game IND won 31-23. Over the years the venue has changed, usually to accommodate the growing number of fans for both teams that show up to support their teams. Currently the Towson Center on the campus of Towson University is the venue of one of the premier high school events in the Baltimore area.

The pageantry surrounding the event make it more than just one more game on the schedule for both teams. The competition between the cheerleaders, pep squads, and alumnae and students singing their Alma Maters make it a homecoming for past classes of IND students.
